MOTIHARI:  East Champaran Superintendent of Police Kumar Ashish has come up with a number of initiatives to ensure justice up to netizens and elevate the cops’ images, which has been under severe strains until January 4 when Mr Kumar joined as Motihari SP.

Almost every day’s arrest of warranties as well as recoveries of illicit liquor is the testimony of two things. The first is, despite being liquor blanket ban in Bihar, it has been flourishing trade in east champaran district until recently and another is SP Kumar Ashish has a zero tolerance with criminals and liquor traders, which rules the roost during the tenure of erstwhile dispensation.

Situations of many police stations and its officials, which hit the headlines for wrong reasons, are also changing fast. Even getting an FIR lodged had been a herculean task during the last dispensation.

In many instances, even town police would lodge FIR only after the intervention of the chief minister's office was made. These unscrupulous officials and their police stations are gradually being put to right as SP Kumar Ashish has already shown his anti-corruption stands after putting a Munshi of Motihari police line on suspension on corruption charges.

Said SP Kumar Ashish, “Pro-people initiatives along with anti criminals and liquor traders crack down will be continuing in days to come. Each and every police stations has been given targets to nab warrantees and also he has instructed them to break the backbone of criminals as well as liquor traders.

Keeping in mind the Omicron spread and immediate redressal of public grievances, SP said he is going to launch a virtual system under which he will directly listen to public complaints from police stations in presence of SHOs on video conferencing or using tabs from his office.

Notably, a bench of Justice Sandeep Kumar of Patna high court while hearing a case had made a strong remark on motihari police a few months ago. He pulled up then SP Navin Chandra Jha for not arresting accused persons in a heinous crime of land grabbing and murderous attack filed some two years ago. The court remarks that motihari police have had hand in gloves with realtors. The remarks however left district police red faced and SP Navin Chandra Jha had to appear physically before the court with affidavits.

Incidents of criminal’s activities, however, are yet to be ceased but post incidents’ actions of SP have undoubtedly instilled faith among village folk. Police actions after killing of an air force official in Tiwari Tola and murder of a business man in Ramgarhwa are the specimen of heartening police actions of late in the district.

While mysteries behind a heinous murder case taken place in Madhuban was also solved,  along with destructions of thousands of liters liquor and  more than 100 fugitives including one and half dozen history sheeters were send behind the bar.
