MOTIHARI: District authorities in Bihar’s Motihari are facing tough challenges taming with boozers and their supporters in East Champaran - a bordering district clinging to the porous international border of Nepal.

With attacks on excise police kills one of home guard jawan and injuring many others on indo-Nepal Border in Ghodasahan and another attacks on a police team in Pipra police station area, in which many police personnel sustained injuries within a week . It seems situation is attaining alarming day to day.

The Indo-Nepal border is porous since it was demarcated in the queen's age and that is the reason why it has always been challenging for local police and securities agencies here. Numbers of chronic boozers are another hurdle in making Nitish’s liquor blanket ban success.

Despite Sashastra Seema Bal (SSB) being guarding the border and many police stations and outposts of district police and excise police stationed there, liquor mafia, drugs mafia and many smugglers syndicates are freely active on either side of the border.

No barriers, no fencing and habitants either side of no-men’s lands causing hurdles to security officials in undertaking their operations, and braving all such odd circumstances, whenever they try to check them, they are not only attacked by local bootleggers but they are also killed.

This is not first incident in this district, when a police personnels was beaten to death by bootleggers and their supporters but in Pakadidyal sub-division, a policemen was crushed to death few years ago by liquor mafia, while a team of policemen tried to intercept a vehicle carrying liquor in the localities.

Besides, on many occasions police teams were attacked by liquor mafia in Harsiddhi and other localities in the district. Last week, villagers attacked a police team in Pipra Police station area injuring many cops.

Hriday Narayan Ray was killed by locals when he along with other excise police intercepted a local boozer. When they are attacked rest of the policemen run away leaving behind the home guard Jawan helpless.

Police is reported to have taken stern actions and had arrested assailants in dozens in both the incidents but Himalayan question is- whether kingpins of these attacks will be zeroed in or only those are often used as puppets to commit such crimes. Everyone knows the white collars backing these attacks that need to be identified and booked to instill faith among the zetizens.
