 Lucknow. In the light of sudden jump in the cases of heinous crime like kidnapping for heavy amounts of ransom followed by brutal murders, abduction and murder owing to old enmity, broad daylight shoot out to extort money, over the month or so, bringing considerable decline in law and order situation in state, UP DGP HC Awasthi here on Wednesday, directed top police officials concerned to step up their efforts to ensure that such cases are worked out within a stipulated time to give justice to the aggrieved parties. 
 
As part of DGP’s directions to this effect, in the event of cases related to kidnapping for ransom, Police officials concerned, must collect the the photos and details of victims to send them to other states to get feedback within 24 hours. This may contribute to expeditious action and result. 
 
If the culprit is carrying a mobile phone, surveillance team must be used to collect the available data to help trace victim’s whereabouts. Keeping in view the gravity of crime, a special police team must be constituted and if needed, STF top officials be informed to seek their help for the timely recovery of victims. 
 
According to DGP Awasthi, if the involvement of a criminal gang in the abduction is ascertained, multiple police teams should be formed for speedy arrest of gangsters responsible for heinous crimes. The interrogation of accused named in the FIR, should be video-recorded properly. Their polygraph and brain-mapping and narco-analysis tests should be done. Senior district officials must review the crime- related situation periodically in their districts, to bring the law and order situation under control. In the case of kidnapping for ransom case, station officer, circle officer, additional SP and SSP must rush to the spot immediately to help work out case expeditiously.
 
 DGP has also directed all top officials to ensure that these directions are enforced in toto to help check the heinous crimes with immediate effect. In view of phenomenal rise in the cases of heinous crimes over the month in the state, there has been a feeling of insecurity among people. “Under the circumstances, people have lost their confidence in law and order machinery”, said a 45-year-old social activist at Lucknow.
