Spurt of crime in Motihari, crumbling law and order worrying traders

MOTIHARI: In the last one month and so, East Champaran- a Bihar’s bordering district is witnessing a spurt in crime activities.

From murder to daring robberies and major theft, all kinds of crimes are occurring almost every days .

In the intervening night of Tuesday-Thursday, a major theft was committed in Harsidhi market breaking cash chest in two different jewelry shops. Police said shop owners claimed that yellow metals worth 38 lacks was stolen by a group of unknown thieves. DSP Areraj Ranjan Kumar visited the site and recorded the statements of victim shop owners.

On 13 February, the thieves had targeted a Jwellery shop named Om Sai Jwelers in Kadamwa Gola Chawk in Chhodasahan. The modus operadi of this theft, police said the criminals had dented the shop and looted gold worth Rs 3 lakhs.

It may be recalled here that a gang of thieves had stolen gold worth approximately two crore from breaking shutters of a Jwellery shop at Balua Chawk and Sugauli. The thieves stolen jwellery from Maa Manokamna Jwellery shop in Turkaulia also  

 Police, however, claimed that they have nabbed some members of gangs involved in Balua Chawk’ shop Raj Jewelers’ theft case but surprisingly enough, barring some low cost silver items and iron made utensils being used in shutter breaking police failed to recover gold stolen from these shop.

A police officials requesting anonymity said that reason behind sudden spurt of crime may be transition period of transfer and postings in police station.

Keeping in mind the upcoming parliamentary election, police officials have been transferred on mass level and people involved in criminals activities usually takes advantages of such transitions when all the officials takes some times to develop their informers and understand the nature of crimes in their respective localities.
